License Plate Reader (LPR) Field Test

The purpose of this project was to assist the FDOT with the deployment and testing of three temporary license plate reader (LPR) test beds in the Tallahassee area for the purpose of assessing the viability of this technology under Florida-specific conditions. The test focused on an investigation of travel time generated:

Use of LPR Technology to Track “Vehicles of Interest”

As a follow-on to the LPR Field Test, the FDOT investigated the concept of deploying LPR-based technology to generate anonymous travel time data while also facilitating the identification of specific vehicles during emergency situations.

Update on the State of the Innovative Traffic Data Collection Industry

During 2001, the FDOT commissioned a research study on the current level of innovation in the traffic data collection industry.  Since that time, significant changes have occurred within this industry, with a number of entities now promising to put disruptive technologies and/or business models into play that will revolutionize the manner in which data is collected.  The purpose of this project was to provide an updated analysis on the state of the industry, focusing on two (2) primary areas:
